What is deep ultraviolet sterilization technology? What are its advantages?

1、 Principle of ultraviolet sterilization

 

 
First, according to the wavelength, ultraviolet can be divided into UVA long wave ultraviolet (wavelength range 315 – 400 nm), UVB medium wave ultraviolet (wavelength range 280 – 315 nm), UVC short wave ultraviolet (wavelength range 200 – 280 nm) and VUV vacuum ultraviolet (wavelength range 10 – 200 nm). UVA long wave ultraviolet is often called near ultraviolet, and UVC short wave ultraviolet is often called deep ultraviolet.
 
Second, UV is a mutagen. In a specific wavelength range (mainly UVC) and high enough dose, UV can cause abnormal chemical bonds between adjacent pyrimidine molecules of DNA or RNA in microbial cells such as bacteria and viruses, hinder the replication of DNA or RNA, and cause microbial cell death. Deep ultraviolet LED can achieve the effect of sterilization and disinfection by emitting deep ultraviolet with UVC wavelength.
 
Third, during the SARS period, researchers from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that using a UV exposure of more than 90uW/cm2 for 60 minutes, the SARS virus could be killed. New Coronavirus is similar to SARS virus and belongs to single strand positive strand RNA virus. Therefore, scientific and rational use of ultraviolet rays can effectively kill New Coronavirus.
 
2、 Advantages of LED
 
At present, there are two kinds of UV light sources for sterilization: traditional mercury lamp and deep UV LED. Compared with many shortcomings of traditional mercury lamps, deep UV LED has obvious policy and technical advantages.
 

Disadvantages of traditional mercury lamps:
 
(1) Bulky appearance, large size, large space, inconvenient installation and equipped with high-voltage power.
(2) The start-up time is long and the light needs to be warmed up. Generally, it takes 1-5 minutes to stabilize the output, which can not be turned on and used immediately.
(3) The glass tube is fragile, the frequent switch is easy to break, and the ballast is easy to be damaged,
(4) The service life is short, the actual effective life is about 1000 hours, and up to 90% of the service life is consumed in the frequent switching stage.
(5) It is highly toxic and contains mercury. After rupture, it will cause mercury leakage, pollute the environment and seriously endanger human health.
 
Compared with other sterilization methods, deep UV LED has obvious technical advantages:
 
(1) Instant on and use, microsecond response, sterilization and stable output at the moment of power on;
(2) Space saving, small volume, light weight and convenient installation;
(3) Maintenance free, frequent start-up has no impact on service life and low failure rate;
(4) Non toxic and harmless, no mercury and no heavy metals;
(5) Long service life, service life can reach more than 3000 hours of high-efficiency sterilization ability;
(6) No pungent smell, pure 270-285nm UVC ultraviolet, no ozone;
(7) It can be installed at the water outlet to realize terminal sterilization without secondary pollution;
